The vice president of safety and risk management at Florida Rock & Tank Lines-and new Safety & Security Council national chair-was deposed by three attorneys in the same Marriott Marquis Houston room earlier that day, and wasn't sure he wanted to return. Fortunately, the evening's positive vibes, including David Strein's roast of former Safety & Security national chair Dan Athmer, helped exorcise the demons. "Dave, thank you," Anderson joked. "Your tribute to Dan was therapy for me." Anderson isn't the only safety director who could use a little post-deposition healing. These indispensable safety professionals are spending more and more of their valuable time answering attorneys' pre-trial questions, said Joe Darby, director of safety and risk control at Aon, which provides law firm advisory services. That's time they could have spent promoting safety-or sharing their successes with me. |
