New prime minister Liz Truss has appointed Anne-Marie Trevelyan as transport secretary, replacing Grant Shapps, while Katherine Fletcher has taken on the ministerial roads brief. Berwick-upon-Tweed MP Ms Trevelyan, who is the former secretary of state for international trade and president of The Board of Trade, said she was 'looking forward to getting to work on the many challenges and opportunities transport brings'. 'Transport is crucial to our lives - bringing people together, creating jobs and connecting the UK with the world,' she tweeted. Ms Fletcher has been made a new parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Transport (DfT), as well as minister for women, replacing Robert Courts and Karl McCartney, who was removed after just two months in the role. Ms Fletcher has the roads and regions' brief, while former roads minister Baroness Vere is now responsible for aviation and local transport. |
