| 摘要： | At a time of rising costs and economic uncertainty, many businesses even outside the roads sector might have a mind to 'borrow' Mr Thompson's strategy at VolkerHighways. Since he took over the role of MD in 2015, the business has seen somewhere in the region of 70% growth, hitting just under £170m in revenue last year. The strong year-on-year revenue increases - rising from £118.5m in 2019 to £136 in 2020, to £167m in 2021 -have been supported by steadily rising profit margins. The performance is particularly impressive for exploiting new opportunities within the company's existing areas of expertise at a time when skills are in short supply. While still based around highway maintenance, the business has moved into street lighting replacement, high-speed broadband fibre roll-out and electric vehicle chargepoint installation. The fruits of this diversification are something that Mr Thompson states is one of his proudest legacies from a career that started in the early 1980s. |
