Opening the packed two-day event, JCT Consultancy director John Nightingale suggested that it may have achieved its highest ever attendance, subject of course to confirmation by traffic counters. Taking place in the week after the death of Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ, it was however subject to the government moratorium on officials giving speeches. This meant that the highly respected Darren Capes of the Department for Transport (DfT) was unable to give his planned keynote. Stepping into the breach, Paul Hutton (below), who provides communications support both to the Transport Technology Forum (TTF) and ITS (UK), gave his personal reflections on the way this part of the highways sector had developed. Unsurprisingly, Mr Hutton praised the TTF, as 'more than a talking shop', adding: 'It's a doing shop.' |
