'Too often, people only truly understand what we do when they are in a crisis on a motorway and they turn up to help. There are so many misconceptions about our role but The Motorway is a brilliant way to give millions of people an insight into our work from the comfort of their homes.' National Highways traffic officer Dave Harford explains that this is one of the reasons why he was only too happy to feature in the Channel 5 documentary The Motorway, which returned to TV screens in September. Getting enough material for 20 one-hour episodes requires a huge amount of filming. Crews from production company Fearless Television spent more than four months shadowing teams in both the North West and the West Midlands. Cameras followed traffic officers and control room operators as they dealt with multi-vehicle collisions, car fires, breakdowns, debris and runaway animals. |
