| 摘要： | There is a feast of major news stories this month (like all news feasts a lot of it is pretty unpalatable) and it is hard to know which one is the most important. The big news of the moment is rising inflation, causing projects to be retendered or potentially delayed and even resulting in warnings that contracts could be subject to force majeure failures. Already rising prices and troubled supply chains were compounded by Putin's horrendous war against Ukraine. Rightly, our government has taken sanctions against his malevolent regime and our sector has to shoulder a share of the burden. Not unrelated to this is our cover story; the annual ALARM survey is always the big news in our industry but this year the report was particularly worrying. The backlog has leapt back up to more than £12bn.The progress in efficiency and asset management made in recent years has taken a hit and councils face the tricky prospect of working on frozen budgets for the foreseeable future. The annual RAC Foundation and ADEPT state of the nation bridges survey told a similar story of roads authorities desperately running to stand still. |
