摘要: In the beginning, Hill and Smith made 'puddling machines, ornamental gates, fences and structural steel work'. As an historic iron manufacturer, it once supplied fencing to Queen Victoria, ornamental gates for King Chulalongkorn of Siam in around 1900, components for the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932, and, closer to home, the company created the dome steelwork at Birmingham University. Established by Edward Hill and Henry Smith in 1824. and originally known as Hill's Ironworks, the company has a lot to celebrate this spring including a centenary of safety products, as well as record revenue and underlying profit at £705m and £86m respectively. The financial performance is already ahead of pre-pandemic 2019 levels and the group boasts a strong balance sheet to support future growth opportunities, while the medium-term outlook 'remains positive'. The firm said it was 'expecting to make good progress in 2022 despite ongoing industry-wide supply chain and inflationary challenges'. It has also developed its environmental social and governance strategy around seven priorities including setting out a path to be carbon net zero by 2040.
