The three co-founders of Vivacity Labs - chief executive officer Peter Mildon, chief technology officer Yang Lu, and chief executive officer Mark Nicholson - met at Cambridge University where they were part of a large team building a solar-powered car. Shared interests in sustainability and transport set the trio wondering about a future working together. 'We asked ourselves, do we want to get into autonomous vehicles? We don't want to be competing with the likes of Tesla and Google, so we turned the equation on its head and said: can we make the road smart rather than the car smart? That was the founding vision behind what we are doing,' Mr Mildon says. This leap in lateral thinking, probably the first of many, has brought Vivacity an impressive early stake in the ITS market and a breakthrough that could change the way we monitor road safety. Vivacity has deployed an expanded neural network to deliver three-dimensional positional accuracy for traffic through a continuing trace across two-dimensional camera imagery, based on the movement of a vehicle's centroid and surrounding vectors between split second image capture without the need for stereoscopic vision. Pretty obvious when you think about it...but it's probably best we let Mr Mildon explain. |
