The only constant is change and the only certainty is that we live in uncertain times. Now, more than ever, we need to significantly change our trajectory of consumption and build a fairer and more resilient world. To some, this will sound like ecobabble, but in its Sixth Assessment Report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) provides a stark headline: 'It is unequivocal that climate change has already disrupted human and natural systems. Past and current development trends (past emissions, development and climate change) have not advanced global climate resilient development (very high confidence). 'Societal choices and actions implemented in the next decade determine the extent to which medium- and long-term pathways will deliver higher or lower climate resilient development (high confidence).' The report is extremely heavy-going, but it is clear that unless we radically change what we are doing, we are in trouble. |
