Tributes have flooded in from across the sector in honour of Michael Conway, who passed away peacefully at home after a six-year battle with cancer. Two generations of Highways editors paid their respects to Mr Conway and the legacy he built at his family company. Current editor Dominic Browne said: 'My condolences to the family, all his friends and colleagues. Mr Conway was a giant in our industry, admired by all. I had the honour of interviewing him for Highways at his offices. He was gracious, generous, open and impassioned and an amazing ambassador for the sector. He was true to his reputation as someone who was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in, as well as someone who took great pleasure in engaging with people. We have lost one of our greats; a real legend.' Former editor Alec Peachey said: 'I remember attending the opening of FM Conway's head office in Sevendaks when editor of Highways. He was a fantastic host that day and a complete gentleman.' Highways columnist Ranty Highwayman, who has many years of experience in the sector, described Mr Conway as a true pioneer'. |
