The highways sector has struggled with a skills gap for some time, meaning that securing the right person for the job is even more vital. This demand, coupled with areas of strong investment in infrastructure, is reflected in a buoyant jobs market.Figures from 2021 show that there was a 20.5% increase in the number of jobs uploaded to the Highways Jobs website over the year. From January to June last year, there were 297 jobs posted, while July to December saw 358 opportunities.Covering a range of highways and related services, the market is spread fairly evenly across the different types of authority, with county councils accounting for the largest share of posted jobs at 38%, followed by district, borough and city councils on 34% and then London councils on 28%. The website itself has seen strong traffic and currently has around 8,900 unique users a month. This is on top of the huge readership for Highways, and our Highways on Fridays bulletins, which reach more than half a million readers a year. |
