The pandemic has tested our professional (and personal) resilience to punishing degrees in some instances over the last two years: new ways of working, lockdowns, job insecurity, increased workloads and furlough are just some of the challenges that have been thrown people's way. While there are now tentative signs that the pandemic may be beginning to ease, resilience will still be needed in the coming months with staff absences and supply chain issues set to dominate the first few months of 2022 - both of which have the potential to cause significant disruption to the infrastructure sector.Resilience has been defined as 'the capacity to thrive, rather than just survive, in high-stress environments' (M.Cleary et al, Nurse Education Today. Vol 71] and is what helps employees protect and recoup their personal resources at work, which in turn protects them from problems like psychological distress and burnout. |
