It is with great sadness that Highways reports on the sudden and unexpected death of Andrew Lupton, the much-loved sales director of winter maintenance company Econ Engineering.Mr Lupton, who passed away on 9 January, was born in Ripon in 1965, the eldest of three sons. When Andrew was four years old, his father William [Bill] founded Econ Engineering, building on his successful agricultural inventions.After taking A levels, Andrew studied Business at Leicester Polytechnic and spent a year in industry with IBM. Upon graduation, Andrew took up a sales position with the Manchester-based National Computing Centre, where he met his future wife, Karen. The pair married in 1996 and had two children, Thomas and Rachel.In 1988, Andrew joined his father and brother Jonathan in the growing family business, quickly making a name for himself within its sales team. In 1991, Andrew was promoted to sales manager and seven years later he and Jonathan were made board directors. At the time, Econ had a turnover of £8m, employed a workforce of 140 and produced 350 vehicles a year. Its hire division was launched in 2001 and the MHS gritter hire fleet was acquired in 2005, doubling the Econ fleet. |
