A host of industry names are showing interest in a £1.2bn Private Finance Initiative (PFI) concession to maintain roads in Birmingham for the city council.A total of 30 contractors and consultants attended an open day on 18 January, when the council outlined plans for the deal.Contractors at the event included Aggregate Industries, BakerHicks, Balfour Beatty Carnell, Colas, Hanson, Kier, Osborne, Tarmac and Tilbury Douglas.Engineering consultants were also in attendance, including Arup, Arcadis, Currie & Brown, Egis and Ramboll, along with financial consultancies such as EY and PwC.The council had originally signed a 25-year £2.7bn highways management and maintenance contract with Amey in 2010 but the two sides became bogged down in a bitter legal dispute.The deal was terminated in March 2020 with Amey paying £215m to and its involvement and Kier stepping in as interim contractor. |
