Essex County Council will press ahead with the procurement of a main contractor to build a link road between the A120 and A133 east of Colchester, despite the cost surging by more than £21m to £90.1m.The council, which is working in collaboration with Colchester Borough Council and Tendring District Council, was awarded £99.9m from the Housing Infrastructure Fund. This money was to cover the 2.4km stretch of dual carriageway and a separate development of a rapid transit system, but the council has already spent £5.7m.'Worse than expected ground conditions' were said to have pushed the cost up. The council has now asked Homes England and the Treasury for extra funding and the deadline for completing the road has been pushed back a year to August 2025. |
