The Department for Transport (DfT) blamed utilities for 'creating a plague of potholes' as it outlined plans to reform the road works sector under a range of legislative and regulatory changes expected next year. Following a consultation, ministers announced plans to introduce a performance-based sample inspection regime to cut down on poor reinstatements. Its figures suggest an average failure rate of around 9%. Reinstatement failures rose to 63% in the case of one company, although industry bodies told Highways this figure was now out of date and the company in question had made good progress following staffing issues post-Brexit. The DfT plans to introduce the following banding for reinstatement failure rates that will be assessed each quarter of the year. |
