Nowhere is this more important than our roads, which play a vital role in the economic and social health of our country. Every pound invested in our roads creates two pounds for our economy. It also comes at a critical moment in fighting climate change when roads and how they operate must become greener and more sustainable if we're to meet our goal of net zero by 2050. And the urgency of this should not be underestimated. The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that significant interventions in carbon reduction are required now, if the planet is to limit a global temperature rise of 1.5 degrees celsius. |
