The first major addition to the 2016 traffic signs regulations, known as TSRGD, has just come into force in Scotland. A Scottish Statutory Instrument [SSI] became law on 23 May to add 16 signs and symbols to those available north of the border. The project was an interesting one for Buchanan Computing and involved helping Transport Scotland to finalise the sign designs and to produce for them both the working drawings and the graphics in the SSI itself. The main driver for these amendment regulations was the need for signs for the Low Emission Zones being introduced initially in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee. These zones will differ from Clean Air Zones in England (and Low/Ultra Low/Zero Emission Zones in London and Oxford) in that there is no option to pay a charge to enter with a non-compliant vehicle. Warning letters will be sent initially, but then penalties will be issued to keepers of cars, lorries and buses seen in the zone that are not compliant with Euro 4/Ⅳ/6/ Ⅵ standards and which are not covered by an exemption. |
