摘要: With hundreds of senior figures from across a range of organisations responding to our latest polling, Highways Asks has produced the first authoritative insight into how the highways sector feels it has changed over the last two years and what it expects for the future. Among the key issues discussed were the challenges the sector faces in delivering schemes. Unsurprisingly, the key issue was reduced funding, followed by rising costs. A 'lack of available skills' was ranked the third most significant challenge demonstrating how much the skills crisis is starting to impact the industry. A shocking 85.8% of respondents said there had been a decrease in labour availability in the last two years, compared to just 3.7% who said it had increased. Among the next most serious concerns were 'community and stakeholder sentiment being critical of projects', followed by 'pursuit of net zero carbon reductions' and then problems with planning consent. These results demonstrate for the first time just how much social and environmental agendas are affecting the sector in its day-to-day work. Indeed, 74.1 % of respondents said their organisation now has a net zero target and deadline.
