Mr Marron arrived in the highways sector with a fairly impeccable business background. In fact, business runs in his family: 'My parents had their own business. My entire family is in business - on my mother's side, certainly.' Having studied at University College Dublin, he has a business degree and a master's in business studies with a specialisation in manufacturing management. With 20 years of experience under his belt, he has spent most of his career so far working in the packaging sector with large multinational companies. He rose through the ranks of Clondalkin Group, a packaging multinational. Then after it was bought by Essentra plc, he quickly became managing director of the FTSE 250 company's Ireland operation, with responsibility for 400 employees. He describes the role as: 'A lot of responsibility but not the freedom you might want.' Then when he turned 50 in 2020, he decided it was time for a change and he took the opportunity at Rennicks. The company enjoys strong positions in its core markets, such as retro-reflective sheeting, which is effectively where the business started in 1976, vehicle conspicuity products you might see on blue light vehicles, as well as the sheeting for vehicle registration plates and traffic signs. It also provides road safety and technology products including mobile variable message signs, radar products, active travel products such as road delineators for cycle lanes, winter maintenance products and a journey time planner. |
