I am writing this in the first half of January, with the winter in my corner of London having been so far quite wet and stormy, plus there was that week of sub-zero temperatures before Christmas. As such my regular bout of fresh air by bicycle has involved more adverse weather than usual, including negotiating those locations that always flood and take days to drain. This is a problem created by the triple-whammy of climate change, shrinking local authority maintenance budgets and a sewerage authority that only seems to clean its network by replacing sections of failed sewer. |
