The independent review, published by former energy and green growth minister and outgoing MP Chris Skidmore, does not pull any punches when challenging government to fully embrace the decarbonisation agenda. Real action is needed now, not only to meet climate goals, but also to generate serious GDP contributions along the way. The Skidmore review was commissioned during the Liz Truss administration, by the then secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy, Jacob Rees-Mogg MP. Therefore, the review's recommendations will need to be accepted by the Government in order to have traction - with a likely policy announcement around the time of the March Budget. However, it is worth noting that the Skidmore review received a good level of support from the influential Environmental Audit Committee in the House of Commons. |
