Deciding how big the battery pack should be and where it should be installed is not the only challenge electric vehicle designers face. Determining whether one or more electric motors should be fitted and where they should be located represents a further conundrum. The same question has to be addressed by businesses developing commercial vehicles powered by fuel cells. Based on the MIRA Technology Park, Innervated Vehicle Engineering (IVe) is busy working on a concept 3.5-tonne fuel cell van called IndiGo. Says chief executive officer, Ram Gokal: "We're looking at building a version that will use electric hub motors and trialling it for six months to see what benefits they bring." |
