Researchers at Stanford University believe reversible fuel cells can provide a solution to the renewable energy power supply problem. Integrated reversible power-to-gas systems have the potential to turn electricity to hydrogen and convert it back again when supply is low. Published in conjunction with researchers at the University of Mannheim in Germany, the ability to switch directions could allow the entire system to run closer to full capacity. How to economically balance the grid has been a puzzle for researchers despite the obvious advances made in the carbon free hydrogen and electricity market. |
