The first in-person lecture in 2022 from the Scottish Ayrshire Centre took place at the Fenwick Hotel in February. Dr Eric Boinard and John Campbell explained the role of Scottish Engineering, a not-for-profit organisation governed by its members, which assists manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain organisations reach their goals. Achieving carbon reduction targets form a major part of its function having set target forms of 50% by 2020,75% by 2030,90% by 2040 and 100% by 2045. Eric outlined the process SE adopts with its customers: a specific plan designed to identify the various elements that make up the business. In most cases, transport is the biggest contributor, and therefore the biggest focus. SE then produce a practical, focussed set of objectives that satisfy the government's guidelines in a cost-effective way and minimise disruption to businesses. The penalty of non-compliance will be costly and may start to impact on the various members' daily operations. |
