Almost everyone agrees that the commercial vehicle industry is suffering from a shortage of technicians. There aren't enough competent people to carry out the checks and repairs required to make vehicles roadworthy. Many reasons have been given about why this is the case, and many suggestions made about how to fix it. But here's one factor that may be underappreciated: investing in the tutors who train future technicians. How important are they? The best judges are the learners themselves, as I heard recently at S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol during a break in the action at this year's IRTE Skills Challenge in June. |
