Two deals to swap diesel for HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) have been announced. Both involve the input and drive of particular customers. First is MJD, road haulier to Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) among others. It has announced a total transition to an HVO drop-in biofuel called GD+ across all its haulage operations from February 2022. The fuel will be used in MJD's existing diesel engine trucks, with no modifications required. The switch is the result of a programme run by CCEP to encourage its third-party partners to transition to lower carbon solutions. CCEP led a 12-month collaboration between MJD and supplier Green Biofuels. Following the trial, MJD signed a deal for six million litres per annum of GD+. MJD will completely switch out diesel in all of its logistic and haulage operations at no additional capital expenditure cost, it is said. The second was Howard Tenens Logistics' key Andover depot in Hampshire. It will receive 1m litres of GD+per year. One of Howard Tenens' key customers involved, Mole Valley Farmers, is taking action across its business to meet its aim to be carbon net zero by 2040. Andy Taplin, head of retail supply chain at Mole Valley Farmers, said: "Together with our warehousing and distribution partner, Howard Tenens Logistics, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions associated with our transport and warehousing." |
