Mossley in the part of Greater Manchester now called Tameside was the M in the SHMD, the most memorably named of the municipal fleets hoovered up into the region's PTE in 1969, the other initials of the joint board being for Stalybridge, Hyde and Dukinfleld. Andrew Stopford was delighted to see that the town's transport features in Old Mill Town, the work of local artist Chris Cyprus which is displayed on the side of a doctors' surgery as part of an art trail. Near the middle of a scene depicting a mill, two schools, two churches, a football ground and typical terraced housing is a local double-decker. Not a green one of SHMD, as he's only 52 and probably never saw one, but an orange and white example of Greater Manchester Transport. |
