The Scottish government has allocated over £800,000 in funding to support three new partnerships formed to improve local bus services in parts of west and east Scotland. Announced in February, the Argyll & Bute Bus Partnership, Midlothian Bus Alliance and West Lothian Bus Alliance join eight other partnerships involving 28 local authorities. Supported through the Bus Partnership Fund, local authorities and bus operators are joining forces to implement bus priorities such as bus lanes, guided busways or traffic signal prioritisation, all designed to make buses a more attractive alternative to the car. The government's funding for infrastructure comes with the expectation that operators and local authorities will invest at the same time in ticket offers, new vehicles, car parking restrictions and other measures to encourage more bus use. |
