HMCRP Report 11: Technical Assessment of Dry Ice Limits on Aircraft describes a technical approach to determining the maximum quantity of dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) that can be safely carried aboard aircraft. A key finding of this research is that dry ice transport limits would best be based on packaging surface area rather than on the current mass-based limits. As a result of this finding, guidelines are provided that could be used to provide safe limits for carriage of dry ice on commercial airplanes. |
