Go-Ahead Group has released its 2021 financial results, which were delayed due to fallout from the company being stripped of the Southeastern railway franchise (Buses March). While bus operating profit increased from £70.5m in 2020 to £86.4m in 2021, overall the group made a loss for the period of £40.7m. This was around 20% less than the loss the group suffered in 2020, and largely caused by £104.1m of 'exceptional charges.' The charges included £30m set aside for a potential financial penalty from the Department for Transport, and £66.2m for an 'onerous contract provision' for a Norwegian rail contract. |
