摘要: The Bellshill-based Ballantyne family has given up its local bus service linking Motherwell, Mossend, New Stevenston and Bellshill after 32 years of operation. Having run a couple of coaches for some years previously, Ballantyne moved into local bus service provision in July 1989 with an hourly Monday to Saturday operation on the route. A second hourly service began in April 1990 linking Bellshill, Coatbridge and Airdrie in competition with various Kelvin Central services, but it was withdrawn after ten months. That allowed the Bellshill-Motherwell service 5 to be doubled in frequency from March 1991 and extended within Bellshill to Clay Crescent. At the outset, the service was provided by Mercedes-Benz minibuses but by 2011 it had been converted to full low-floor operation with three Optare Solos in use. The Bally Bus, as it was branded, continued on that basis for another ten years, but ceased on January 15 when JMB Travel provided an equivalent replacement service.
