The metal-framed utility bodies built by Northern Counties towards the end of World War Two proved to be much more durable than other manufacturers' timber-framed counterparts and required less major rebuilding in later life. Dundee Corporation No.92 (YJ 7983), which Ken Cameron photographed at Maryfield garage around 1957, was one of 10 on Daimler CWA6 chassis that were new in 1944, when it was No.27. The level of rebuilding required on other utility double-deckers is apparent on the 1943 Massey-bodied CWA6 parked behind. The Dundee Museum of Transport hopes to relocate to the Maryfield building, which was built as a tram depot, and turn it into a visitor attraction and community facility. |
