Nick Thomson is confident that he can identify the inspiration behind the playing card Leyland that attempted to pass itself off as a London double-decker in December 'Tales'. He's sure it's an East Lanes-bodied Titan PD2/40 from his home town of Warrington, new between 1962 and 1964. The drawing may have been adrift on some detail, but he says it has the same livery with three white bands, the same destination screen layout and front roof dome with air intake. And there's a possible London connection, as 1964 Titan 11 (AED 26B) went to the capital in 1986 for use by London Coaches as training vehicle LE1, painted in traditional London Transport red with a single cream band. It was exported to Bulgaria ten years later. Nick's picture shows similar 16 (AED 31B) in 1985, which by then was Warrington training bus Tl. It too has been exported, to the Czech Republic. |
