Small unitary Torbay Council has funded new on-board audio-visual next stop announcements - the first locally - across two key South Devon routes in partnership with Stagecoach South West. The operator retrofitted the technology to 30 Scania/Alexander Dennis Enviro400 buses used on every 10 minute Brixham-Paignton-Torquay-Newton Abbot route 12 and every 20 minute Paignton-Torquay-St Marychurch route 22 which projects to Teignmouth and Dawlish hourly. Stagecoach programmed the systems to enable GPS auto-adjusting destination displays showing local via points relevant to progress along the journey instead of a generic via point throughout. Distinctive red Hopl2 and green Hop22 dedicated local liveries are though being replaced by new plain national local livery. Torbay Council told Buses: "The funding of the new onboard technology cost approximately £100,000, funded through planning contributions from new development sites across Torbay near to the 12 and 22 bus routes and remaining bus grant funding linked to the real time information project." Stagecoach says it will be adding to the system in the coming months to improve customer experience. |
