Following last year's successful events, the London Bus Museum has announced details of three running days that it will be organising during 2022. On Saturday March 26 a heritage operation will take place over route 101 (Wanstead - North Woolwich). The 101 has run since 1914 and, until the garage's closure in September 2011, was operated by Upton Park garage. During the heyday of the London docks, it was a busy route with a bus every minute, requiring over 60 buses. In early post-war years, it was associated with utility Guys and was the last Central Area route to be operated by STLs. The running day will mainly see Routemaster and RT family buses in operation although some additional interest is also planned. The present-day route 101 was diverted away from North Woolwich in 2005. It now links Wanstead and Galleons Reach and has been operated by Blue Triangle since 2017. Plans have been announced to withdraw it between Beckton and Galleon's Reach. Sunday June 12 will see a special services on route 81 between Hounslow and Windsor, which was the route's western terminus until 1963, albeit for most of its existence the section between Slough and Windsor only ran at weekends. Modern preserved buses, which do not comply with the requirements of the London Low Emission Zone will run between Colnbrook and Windsor. On October 1 an RT themed event is planned for route 37 (Putney Heath -Peckham). |
