Stagecoach Midlands' two routes into Leicester have become the company's pilot for the use of Tap On Tap Off technology. The city has used £0.975m from Transforming Cities funding to assist operators in offering Tap On Tap Off, with Arriva, Centrebus and First all converting during 2021. It is also available on Kinchbus, which had pioneered the technology in 2016/17, before introducing it permanently in 2019. At the moment, fare capping is offered only on an individual operator basis, with different schemes on each operator. Centrebus offers capping within the city, although Tap On Tap Off can still be used for longer journeys extending beyond Leicester. Arriva offers capping within four separate zones, while on Stagecoach, the whole of route 48L is included, but only the Leicester-Market Harborough element of X7, which continues on to Northampton. The 34-mile long route is a split registration north and south of Market Harborough, with drivers resetting their ticket machines at that point. |
