In his article about the LCT timetables of the sixties and seventies (Buses February) Stuart Render mentions the Roe advert on the rear of the timetable The very first timetable with such an illustration features 668 (PUA 668), a 1952 AEC Regent heading for Leeds from Farnley. At the time the Roe advert on the rear of the timetable also featured another bus from this batch, 669 (PUA 669). This had been on the timetable for a number of years and featured a line drawing of the Leeds Civic Hall. 669 had been exhibited at the 1952 Earls Court show. Following on from the Regent, the next Roe advert features a 1962 AEC Reliance 43 (843 CUM) which had been an exhibit at the 1962 Earls Court show. The changes were rung in 1967 when Leeds 131 (HNW 131D) on of the first 33ft long double-deckers in the UK and again a Commercial Motor show exhibit was featured. While the Reliance had a genuine destination display for the 9 Ring Road service 131, it had a mocked up destination for the 15 showing a fake destination, as the service ran to Seacroft Town Centre rather than a generic Seacroft In 1968 the changes were rung again when 153 (PUB 153G), one of the new dual-doored Daimler Fleetlines, was featured. Again this was a show exhibit. In 1970, the bus on the back was changed once more to a Leyland Atlantean 428 (XUM 428J) shown at the 1970 Commercial Motor show. This was the last variation of the Roe picture until 1974 when LCT ceased to exist and was the only Leyland to feature. |
