Registered buses will not face any charges, when Oxford's pilot Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ) starts, currently planned for a date during February. The ZEZ covers a handful of streets in the centre of the city, including Bonn Square and Queen Street, a key link to enable buses to serve the prime retail area. These are pedestrianised streets with local buses allowed access at all times, while most other vehicles are restricted to overnight use. Coaches visiting the Oxford area should also be unaffected by the ZEZ, as they are not currently permitted to use any of the roads within the zone. Charges for vehicles that must pay are set from £2 to £10, which will be doubled in August 2025. At a future date - not yet determined - the zone will be expanded to a much wider area, covering the whole of the city centre and potentially affecting all bus routes running into central Oxford. |
