The roads from Glasgow to Campbeltown are steeped in history; following the Great Western Road out of Glasgow on the A82; running alongside Loch Lomond from Balloch - the southernmost point of the loch - to Tarbet, where the A82 continues right, heading for Crianlarich and points north to Oban (via the A85), Fort William and Inverness. The A83 Campbeltown road bears left at Tarbet and hits the top of Loch Long at Arrochar, continuing through Glen Croe to "Rest and be Thankful" before descending to Cairndow at the head of Loch Fyne. The A83 continues along Loch Fyne until it reaches the incredibly atmospheric Argyll town of Inveraray - the seat of Dukes of Argyll of Campbell descent. |
