The sole survivor of 62 RT-type AEC Regent Ills built for ten operators outside London was among the vehicles attending Connexions Buses' 20th anniversary gathering at Wetherby Racecourse on July 17. Grimsby Corporation 81 (JV 9901) was one of three Roe-bodied examples delivered in 1946 and placed in service in January 1947, ten years before the neighbouring Grimsby and Cleethorpes undertakings were merged on formation of a joint transport committee. It wears Grimsby's maroon and cream livery with brighter red coach lining. The so-called provincial RTs, with rear wheel discs and low bonnet and radiator, were early production Regent Ⅲ chassis. The standard model's taller bonnet and radiator accommodated an oil bath air cleaner not considered essential in London; it also had shock absorbers that were omitted on the RT. |
