The Clean Air Zone covering Bradford begins charging from September 26. Buses and coaches must meet a minimum Euro6 standard, or face a £50 charge for travelling in the zone. There are some local exemptions, including school buses which only have to meet Euro4, and coaches run by some smaller operators (including section 19/22 operations) "that are undertaking educational/charity/ social value work". Driver training vehicles are also exempt, while vehicles over 40 years old are excluded as part of a nationwide concession. Bradford Council has provided some financial assistance to aid with the upgrading of vehicles to meet the new standards. Charging is also being applied to lorries, vans, minibuses, taxis and private hire vehicles, a Class C scheme in government parlance. The chargeable zone covers the city centre, and the corridor north west out of the city along the A650 to Shipley. |
