The old Exeter Bus and Coach Station is set to be demolished after Exeter City Council submitted a £900,000 bid to the government's levelling-up fund. Much of the former 1964 facility containing asbestos remains on the large Paris Street site, partly occupied by a new leisure centre and smaller bus station excluding coach and independent services. The levelled site may host temporary markets and shops whilst longer-term wider CityPoint regeneration plans progress. Meanwhile Exeter City Council leader Phil Bialyk has called on the transport authority Devon County Council to financially support Stagecoach more in maintaining vital city services such as its withdrawn night buses. |
