Bournemouth Transport Ltd, which trades as Yellow Buses, entered administration on July 29. Services continued to operate, with most routes running at a Saturday frequency Monday-Friday, staff had been paid for July and funding has been secured to meet immediate salary and supply payments. The operator is not currently selling period tickets of any sort. Yellow Buses had yet to see passenger numbers return to pre-Covid levels. Staff shortages and rising inflation also impacted the business recently. It has faced competition on many routes since deregulation in 1986. Go-Ahead-owned Morebus recently won council tenders for several routes previously operated by Yellow Buses. A statement issued by the administrators said that the directors had been looking for outside investment or a purchaser for some time. They felt that as a small independent business it was unable to handle the current challenges alone and hoped that merging with a larger operator would provide them with a broader platform from which to operate. Negotiations with a large national group were said to be in their final stages and it was hoped that they would conclude quickly. |
