Having lost its initial appeal to the High Court over aspects of the Greater Manchester franchising proposal in spring this year, Rotala has now lost the appeal it made against that decision. The Court of Appeal announced its judgement on July 25, which found no case to answer. Mayor Andy Burnham said: "We're delighted that we have comprehensively defeated the last legal challenge in the way of bringing buses under public control." As a result, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) is able to progress its franchising schemes without hindrance, although there are already hints that funding may become a problem for the authority. Tendering for Tranche 1, covering the north-west part of the conurbation, is well underway, with GMCA hoping to purchase the Stagecoach depot at Wigan and the Diamond depot at Bolton as bases for its franchised operations. |
