London's transport commissioner, Andy Byford (right), is to step down at the end of October to return to the United States. The current chief operating officer, Andy Lord, will take over as Commissioner on an interim basis. Byford became commissioner in June 2020 and led TfL out of the darkest days of the pandemic. He has secured a long-term funding agreement with the UK government which gives certainty to staff, suppliers and stakeholders both in London and in TfL's supply chain. He has also overseen the creation of a new, more efficient organisational structure at TfL and the introduction of a new vision with the focus on winning back passengers, supporting the city's economic recovery and helping to build a greener city with sustainable transport at its centre. |
