McGill's Bus Group acquired the two parts of First Scotland East in September. The value of the deal has not been disclosed but it was completed on September 20 and involves depots at Balfron, Bannockburn, Larbert and Livingston with around 550 staff. Over 200 vehicles and the Bright Bus Tour open-top operation in Edinburgh are included in the sale. Few details of future plans were released before the acquisition date, but the two businesses are renamed Eastern Scottish and Midland Bluebird, although both operate jointly as McGill's Scotland East. This represents significant further growth for McGill's, following the purchase of Xplore Dundee from National Express in late 2020, and the more recent expansion into scheduled coaching as a Flixbus partner. "In the weeks and months ahead, we will engage with our new colleagues for feedback and will also listen to the views of local stakeholders as we seek to deliver the best bus service possible," says McGill's chief executive officer Ralph Roberts. |
