摘要: News that Stagecoach has ordered 170 MCV-bodied Volvo BZL electric double- and single-deckers for Stockport is a reminder of how times have changed in this part of Greater Manchester which was a county borough in Cheshire before local government was reformed in April 1974. Stockport Corporation Transport was one of 11 municipal undertakings transferred to the Selnec (Southeast Lancashire, north-east Cheshire) Passenger Transport Executive in November 1969 and its 149 vehicles made it the larger of the two from north-east Cheshire (the other was the Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley & Dukinfield Transport & Electricity Board, better known as the SHMD). Selnec divided its operations into Northern, Central and Southern divisions, with the Stockport, SHMD, Ashton and Oldham fleets forming the Southern division with a spring green stylised S logo. Northern's was rose magenta and Central's lagoon blue. Stockport ran electric trams from 1901 to 1951, three early trolleybuses from 1913 to 1919, and introduced motorbuses to replace the trolleys. Its red and cream livery was still in evidence when Iain MacGregor visited in September 1972, with Selnec's orange and white yet to dislodge the town's colours from 5841 (HJA 941E), a Leyland Titan PD2/40 with rear-entrance 64-seat East Lancs body, which had been Stockport 41.
