Stagecoach co-founder Sir Brian Souter is preserving one of the 15m Van Hool TDX29 Astromega double-deck sleeper coaches built for MegabusGold services in 2013. He has arranged for it to be accommodated at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust's Bridgeton Bus Garage where it will be exhibited along with a video display relating the story of Stagecoach from its formation in 1980. Sir Brian and the trust hope that this modern vehicle will be of particular interest to younger visitors at museum open days. It was the first of 13 of these adaptable coaches with 87 reclining daytime seats which fold down to become 48 beds for overnight travel. Sir Brian operated it last summer on the SuperBus sightseeing service with afternoon tea that he and his son Scott provided in Edinburgh. "I hope it sparks the interest of kids in particular," he says. "It would be great if some go on to careers in the industry. Meanwhile, I look forward to developing a relationship with GVVT and working more together in the future." |
