The Swiss city of Geneva has extended two trolleybus routes from December without putting up new wires as part of its transport plan of action for 2020-2024. Line 2 now runs a further 2.3km (1.4 miles) to Crissy and line 7 extends 1.3km (0.8 miles) to Bout-du-Monde. The city said the improvements to the six-line system were made possible using Van Hool ExquiCity articulated battery trolleybuses which do not need overhead cables. Exquicitys now make up half of the Geneva fleet, with 56 operating alongside 38 Swisstrolley artics and 10 double-bendy SwissTrolleys. The last of the NAW/Hess/Siemens buses delivered from 1993 was withdrawn last summer. |
